Woody & Arlo

Sometimes TV is NOT [...] the opium for the masses (Karl Marx)

PBS's American Masters series presented the biography of Woody Guthrie, an American folksinger, songwriter, artist, newspaper columnist and father.

He died in 1967 from Huntington's disease.

You've never heard of him, I bet you've heard some of his songs.
This Land Is Your Land

American original
This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me.

Canadian Variation
This land is your land, This land is my land,
From Bonavista Vancouver Island
From the Arctic Circle to the Great Lakes waters,
This land was made for you and me.
His writings and recordings are archived in the Woody Guthrie Archives and in The Library of Congress. The Official Woody Guthrie Website has more information and links to his life and work.

Arlo is Woody's son, from his second marriage. Arlo is also a singer and songwriter; his most famous song is Alice's Restaurant a satirical protest against the Vietnam War draft.

Arlo's web site is ArloNet with all the usual stuff, biography, discography, pictures, links and more.
